My Ride: Bmw 530i
Hello,
i havent been on the forum for a loooong time but im a young guyy who is wondering whether or not i should switch from my 530i an m5?
i dont drive too often so gas isnt that much of an issue but im wondering how much a fill up costs and how much a month usually for gas (im a student and i dont drive too far)
m5 = dream car

My Ride: 09 M5 (E60) Interlagos blue, Silverstone interior, with cold weather package. Adaptive Xenon headlamps and adaptive brake lights, hud, comfort access. Comfort seats, basically fully loaded.
first of all, if you are concerned about gas, then you better not buy an M5, cuz its a gas guzzler. Lets say i filled up my M5 2 days ago and i drove about 150 miles or so, its time to refill it. M5 burns krazy gas unless to treat it unlike an m5.
consumption comparison b/w an M5 and a 530i is the same as the comparison b/w Day and Night.
Hope this helps.

I have both an E60 530i and a E60 M5.
I'll tell you this, they are nowhere near the same car other then look wise.
the gas tank is the same size so filling up will cost the same as it currently does, but Instead of going a week and a half between fills, it will be every 3 days (or less).
In the m5 I spend an average of 850 us dollars a month in gas.
as far as driving goes, the 530 is a perfect daily driver and is comfortable and if you have active steering is really a great handling ride and not jerky (no matter how good you are at driving SMG u can not come near matching the smoothness of the auto transmission in the 530i.)
It is a big transition switching between the 2. Although the M puts an enormous smile on my face each time I look at it and get in it, the 530i is much better suited for regular commutes and daily driving and gets ALOT better gas mileage (obviously). when I first got the M i really was questioning my purchase (of having 2 e60's) I will trade one in for another car but I need to see how the new M5 is before I would ever let go of my current one.

lol wow thats rough.
i drive to school mon-fri which is about 5 km away and then random weekend driving of course.
the car definately puts a smile on my face even when its somebody else driving one.
i agree ive heard the smg is very jerky, this is going to be a tough decision.
thanks alot for the feedback you guys!

ya if ur transmission is done, get ready to take out some cash out of your pocket. + who needs an m5? its just a car with lots of horspower and problems... leave ur 530i and buy an m5 when u are more stable in life I am happy for you though, 530i in my decision is a beautiful car ! keep it clean !

You'll love the V10..it drives like no other car on the road.
Power of V10 on 3rd gear pull to redline is priceless!
You don't have long commute so i would get it.
I got rid of mine as my commute is 80mi/day and the SMG was kicking my ass!
