I've spent 1000's on fill ups
Checked my MPG the other day 16.9! This is a 545i there must be something wrong...

You know I really don't think the MPG is bad for a 200mph+ car.
I do around 40,000miles a year and to be fair most of it IS on the motorway. OK remember I'm uk gallons, so larger than US. I've played lot's to see what the best MPG is. Rather than just try a short distance I've reset the MPG counter and stuck to 70mph in P400 for 50 miles and and again in P500. DOne this at 67, 75 and 80 and each time P500 IS gives better mpg. maybe necause there is more torque?
If reset on the motorway a drive of 100 miles at 70ish will see me doing around 27mpg
If reset on the motorway a drive of 100 miles at 80ish will see me doing around 24mpg
In reality I still manage an average of around 20mpg a week. I reset at weekends.... manage around 10mpg for the weekend.....
Out of interest for the non UK owners here, there is marvel of the modern world here called the M6 Toll road. It's always nice and empty and you only need to lift off slightly for a few corners, and thats with the limiter off I manage 7mpg along this road.......

21 MPG highway in P400, 18 in P500.
Just the opposite of you! I can turn on the instant MPG read and hold 21MPG steady and then pressing the M button, INSTANTLY knocks it down to 18MPG.
Weird.

Too bad BMW doesn't offer a extra capacity gas tank for us commuters...I don't mind bad gas mileage since I grew up driving a big block camaro, but the thought of having to fill up more than once a week would drive me crazy!!!

+1 That thought alone has kept me out of an M6. I've done some sprited driving on the TOD and surrounding roads out in the country. Poor Ms have got to refill at about 120-150 miles and we are in the boonies where gas is hard to find. I do 22-24k miles a year and that would just drive me bonkers. If they would put a 35-40 gallon tank in I might see fit to get one though. I've averaged 21 (actual not iDrive) mpg over the 82k miles of my 6er life and get upset filling up at 360-390 miles per tank.
