What do most people average miles/gal? I hear realistically the m5 gets 10-12 mpg....is this true? Even without driving it to the max.

I'm seriously considering the 08 m5 in two years when my lease is up. By then the new 5's will be out and I might be able to find one for 50-60k. BUT, I'm pretty specific in that I want a 08 space grey, manual with perforated black seats. That combo is going to difficult to find. Option 2 is white m3, which are ridculously priced currently at 70k brand new.

One of the local dealers here has an '08 M5 with 2500 miles on it for sale: It was offered to me at $67K. It has no issues and was never repaired or wrecked. So, based on that, I'd say the prices will be closer to $50 than $60K in a few years.

And I got 14.5mpg average over 3200 miles in my "old" M5.

I am averaging a little north of 15 mpg. That is with mixed driving, and not much stop go.

On highway, I am getting between 19 and 20 mpg.

After 6000 miles...

City only: 10-11 mpg
Hwy only: 18-19 mpg (20 mpg if I drive the speed limit)
Mixed: 13-14 mpg

i'm averaging 13mpg. but most of my driving is stop and go to be honest with the odd motorway trip.
two things:
1) if you're buying an M5, don't worry about the mpg. you're not buying it for it's economy. cars like this will never be good.
2) to quote you "Even without driving it to the max" - i think you'll find it VERY hard not to be driving with a heavy right foot with this car!

An average 12.8 mpg (Imperial) for me. That's about 10.65 mpg (US).

I've never got better than 19.1 mpg / 15.9 mpg US on a motorway run.

Recenty on a 300 mile run, i averaged 22.5 MPG (the UK one)...on an average spped of between 75mph and a bit more, depending on traffic.

on a short run to work i get about 12 to 14 mpg.... on average for the 2000 miles i have had the car i'm getting 17.5mpg.

Over 12k miles in the past 2 months 17.3 mpg (us) and 83mph average
bunch of highway driving

city 11-12
mix 14.5 consitently
trip normal speeds 19-21
trip fun sppeds 15-17
just plain fun 6.7 and yes that was for a tank and not on the track...

and just for fun P400 is about 2mpg worse at highway cruising and about the same at city...
that was just for testing purposes

Realisticly I want gas to be $10 a gallon here in the US. It should help to clear people off the roads on the weekend so there is more room to drive...
