My Ride: 2006 550i Titanium Silver Metallic, Black Dakota Leather, Anthracite Maple Wood Trim, Cold Weather Package, Premium Sound Package, Sport Package, Steptronic, Navigation, Electric Rear Sunshades, Heated Rear Seats, Sirius Radio

I am going to the dealership tomorrow morning. They have the car I want, a TIAG on black 550i with Step, Sport, Nav., Comfort Access, Cold Weather and so on. I was going to get a new 3 series, but am put off by a new engine being introduced in the not too distant future. I owned a 5 series before, and the torque of this V8 and the luxury of the 5 series has got me by the throat right now. I sold my M3 to the dealership a month ago, so I have a significant trade credit.

Any former M3 or 3 series owners with 550 or 545? How satisfied have you been? It seems to me that the 550 should perform at least close to the e39 M5 which is a beast? Any comments from new 55o owners?

Well...I do not own an E46 M3 but drove one a couple of times and I have to say that in terms of handling, the 545-550 CANNOT match the M3 coupe, the coupe handling is amazing, so that would be one aspect of the driving experience you are sacrificing....545 compared to an M5, handling wise I really do not see any different...hp wise obviously m5 would still be faster but not by much. I reckon the 550 would close that gap down further...
