I had my stock 166's powdercoated a gunmetal color and use them for my winter wheels. I hate my 166's. They are FUGLY! I dread the day when I'll have to mount them for winter. Ughh...
Just PM'd

But you hate the 166's bc ur rims are sick, or hate the 166's altogether?!?!

I have 3 cars. I only drive the M when there is no snow on the ground. However, I still keep the winters on there, just in case. I can't keep this car housed inside for the winter. It's just too much fun to drive...and too expensive to pay for without enjoying it.

Can anyone take an educated guess of the finish on these 166s? I have to get this done this week, kind of rushed.

BUMP

Well i delayed the crap out of PCing my rims, but this week is D-Day as my warranty expired yesterday( ) and i had to get this done 30 days after the order was written up.

SO!.... I know there are pictures of 166's above, but none that really catch my eye... Can someone take an educated guess on how to describe the rim finish on the above youtube video (post before this) or search modded e60 m5 and its the first one..

I like the loook of a deep black but with s alittle gloss. I was going to go Matte black, but want a shiny finish. Another good reference would be Ryan Shecklers rims on his AMG CL65.

And so the modding finally begins.

THanks for the help guys

The rims in that video are definitely NOT matte black, they are more like gloss black. Almost as much shine on the wheels as the car. There are 100's of different black powders out there your just going to have to look at some samples and figure out which one you like the best. I am currently having my wheels done in satin black which is 40% gloss so there will be some contrast between the car and the wheel. For me matte is way too dull.

I totally agree with you.. matte is way too dull for what im looking for. I talked to the guy whose doing the powdercoat and they have a "Mercedes Gloss Black" that he highly recommends, going to see him today or tomorrow. He was also pushing the "black chrome" look, but NOOOOOOOO.. lets not ruin the car now i say.

Please comment if you have experience with powdercoating rims.
