I have 19"x8.5 rims on my 530xi and using 245/35/19 tires all around. The offset I believe is 43mm. This combination works fine on the car except I will get some rubbing when turning the steering all the way to one side like making a U-turn. But hey, how often will you turn the wheels all the way!

Now are the bad parts. Because the offset of the rim is so high for the XI model, the lip on the wheel will be much thinner than what you would expect. And because of the slight rubbing, it's not possible to lower the car to eliminate the big gap between the fender and the tire.

And lastly, be sure to have the same wheel and tire size all around because the AWD system wouldn't work perfectly if you go staggered.

I've promised some members here before that I will post some pics of my car but I was too lazy. I promise I'll do that in this couple of days!
Hey Bambi,

Decided on the Axis Penta 19's. Figured the replica's were not worth the hassle. Plus, I like the mesh look better. Offset is ET 35 with 19x8.5 @ all 4 corners. Per the offset calculator, I'm looking at 2mm MORE inner clearance (instead of less if I were to do 40 or higher) and 14mm of outer clearance. I talked to the distributor and they guaranteed me no rubbing. If it does, they will take back the wheels even after they are mounted and driven on. They said they did an E60 XI and the driver reported no rubbing. I also spoke to H&R and they said their new lowering springs were tested with 19's, as well as, 18's and 17's. Still no rubbing. The key was having a lower offset than 43 since I'm going to an 8.5" width from an 8" width. I'll let you know how it goes.

Oh, and for all you xi owners considering staggered set ups, it's not recommended. I know the X5 4.8 has it that way, but it's not suggested for our cars. Don't ask me why, but a number of dealers don't suggest it for Audi or BMW.

Good for you! Hope that will work for you.

cmansbimmer, I like the look you're going for. Good luck and keep us posted.

Audi has always said use identical wheels all 4 corners. I can't remember if BMW also does so, it doesn seem off the X5 allows for stagger but there are differnt types of AWD set-ups, perhaps BMW's is more able to manage that?

Thanks. I'm pretty pumped as well. The photo above has 20's, but being that I live in NY, that's just not ideal. 19's are as big as I'll go. There are pot holes in many places around my area and in the city itself and I don't want to drive 5 mph just to be cautious for the wheels. That's not what I consider enjoying the car.

I just rejexed my car last week, so now all I need to do is give it a good cleaning and I'll take some shots and upload them this weekend. Stay tuned...

I'm not sure how dealers can say that the XI's can't/shouldn't run staggered wheels. BMW lists the Style 124's in a staggered configuration for the 530XI.

Part Numbers are:
Front: 36116767541 8 x 18 43mm offset
Rear: 36116767542 9 x 18 55mm offset

I don't see how running a staggered set up will "mess up" the XI drive system. Remember that our XI's run on a 60/40 (rear/front) split power distribution. So if anything, it can only benefit the XI system.

Staggered setup on mine for almost a year, no problem what so ever. I used the exact spec from realoem.com and had HRE made mine.

Yeah, I'm sure you can run staggered, but like 2ManyCars said, he had to have custom wheels done with the exact offset specs needed. For the front, that would be 43 and for the rear, that would be 55. Outside of OEM 18's (Style 124), I couldn't find any manufacturers that had this size readily available. Everything would have to be custom ordered (not cheap).

I've always had the question in my head as to why the X5 4.8 Sport runs staggered and we can't. Never made sense to me.

Regardless though, I've decided to stick with 19x8.5 at all 4 corners. I'll just push the rears out with some H&R 10mm spacers.

Let us know how that goes. Cause the front slight rubbing with 8.5" width on Bambi's wheels is enough to hold me off from purchasing my set of 19x8.5 M5 replicas.

You should know that a lot of the M5 replicas (like my own) come 19 x 8 front 19 x 9 rear.
They also come 74.1mm outside hub diameter, which is perfect for the "xi" (no so perfect for other 5-series models, which need hubcentric rings to increase the 72.56 outside diameter).
