Yes... and the right set up can take a lot more than 4lbs off. Although BMW offers a few light weight forged wheels most are cast and can weigh up to 30 pounds for an 18" wheel. If you replace a 30 pound wheel with a forged 20 pound wheel that's 10 pounds a corner, 40 pounds for four, and a 33% reduction in unsprung weight. Changing from heavy run flats to normal tires saves even more weight. It really makes a difference. After experiencing the effect first hand I will never replace OEM wheels again without reducing weight.
I didnt think about this in buying wheels the first time. I myself will never buy wheels that are heavier.

If someone could post the weights of common bmw wheels that would also he very helpful.

weights of the: 138's, 123's, 124's, 166's, 167's, 172's, and 128's would be nice because i think these are the most common wheels used on the e60.

Since different wheel offsets can cause substantial variances in weights within the same model wheel, are these weights for E60 specific fitment? If not, are all the wheels being compared of the exact same fitment and offset?
I'm pretty sure not all these are for E60 fitment. I believe WSTO originally posted this info on E90Post and then M5Board (probably other sites as well) so it's probably a sampling of wheels for different applications. I know weights of the Alloy Technic wheels are pretty accurate as WheelExperts had posted that data before for wheels that were made for an E60 M5.

You are right that actual weights depend on applications but this is a good rough guideline.

How are the alloy tech rims? Reliable? Bend/crack resistance decent?

I'm not sure how 10,000 ton rotary forged wheels compare to wheels made on an 8000 ton press but if they're the same reference, the higher the pressure, the stronger the wheels. Most forged wheels are done on 5000-6000 ton presses and only some are made on 8000 ton presses like wheels from Champion Motorsport, Radenergie and Neez. Those are among the strongest wheels out there and that is why they're also pricy. I assume these Alloy Tech wheels are stronger since they're made on a 10,000 ton press but hopefully WSTO can confirm.

Thanks

BTW its probably safe to assume it, but how expensive are Alloy Technic rims?

Wheel offset will not vary wheel weight by that much. I really havn't even seen a different offset wheel vary by more than 1 lbs.

The wheels weighed are a various assortment of fitments though.

This is a great Thread.

Any more weights?

I really like the Alloy Tech wheels!

I will probably buy these of somebody in the future for a summer set.

Has anyone ran a staggered set on an M5 with good handling results i.e. 19x9 in the front and 20x10.5 in the rear. Or would this setup mess up the handling dynamics. I believe it would look quite mean!

do you have any VMR V710's in the 19" height weighed? or possibly even a Forgestar F14 in a 19"??
