Thumbs down

Hey guys, I have a 2004 E60 530i // with the 6-stack CD changer and Business Navigation; and I've been
looking at installing a Dension 500 Gateway so I can play songs off my iPod or a Hard disk.

The problem is, I've read conflicting articles whether this would work. Dension says MP3 needs to be enabled
on my car (which it currently isn't) before the Gateway 500 can be installed; and yet another thread on E60.net
says MP3 playback cannot be enabled on a 2004 Pre-LCI Car (CDC) with Business Navigation.

I'm pulling out my hair here, and would love some of the pro's advice before I sink a chunk of cold hard cash
into a Dension (and then regretting it later).

Much appreciated!

If you search around you don't need to pull out your hair (at least not all) i.e. this post:

http://forums.e60.net/index.php?s=&sho...st&p=811552

He didn't even have CDC and his on dash CD don't play MP3 or heck the whole thread:

The OP's car is '04 build too.

I don't see why not. I have a 04 525i, no NAV, no CDC. I did the OEM iPod kit retrofit about a year ago, my car was prewired. I've heard that if you have the CDC, then the iPod kit is plug and play. Call your BMW dealership and give them the last 7 of you VIN, they should be able to look it up and let you know if you can have the iPod kit or not.

Good luck.

You have OEM iPod interface module?
'cuz the OP was talkin' 'bout Dension Gateway 500 module which is not an OEM module.

The issue I'm facing is that I do not currently have the OEM Ipod Installation Kit installed, and I cannot play MP3 CDs by default.
I could take the plunge and do the Dension installation, but that's NOT going to work unless my MP3 is enabled according to some people.

And according to others, MP3 cannot be enabled on my car ?! D:

Heh, didn't read the thread thoroughly huh?

I can guarantee the dension will work.

I have No NAV, No MP3 enabled CD, and No CDC. I retrofitted the IPOD kit, and unplugged it and plugged in the dension gateway 500 and it works perfectly.

So what you need to do is, but the dension, install it, go 2 BMW, and have them program the IPOD kit for you and you are set.

Also, my car build is 09/2003, so it was an early build which had like nothing on the car.

Good luck!

I understand that. but if the OEM kit would work, then Dension will work too. The only thing you must have in your car in order for both to work is the Fiber Optic pre-wiring. If he has fiber optic, both options are available for him as long as he does the proper coding at the dealership after installation.

Note: some dealerships will not do the coding if you install Dension, only OEM kits.

Can't help you there, I have the OEM kit in my car, I like it so far. I know Dension works a little bit better and has some more features like the USB slot where you can add a hardrive, but I only have about 1000 songs that I listen to and my iPod has enough memory. So I can't really justify getting rid of my OEM kit and dropping $500+ for Dension. Maybe I will when they have the AVR, video input for idrive enabled.
