Winter Tires
#11
I have a new 545i with sport package; the front wheels are 18x8 and the rears are 18x9. I want to mount Dunlop Graspic DS2 Dsst 245/40-18 tires, but the dealer said that they are too narrow for the rear rim(18x9). From talking to the people at the tire rack and what I read in the forums, it should be ok? Safe?
My tyre shop (perhaps a friend) said that ,in his experience, it is safer to mount 245/40 on 8 inches rims notwithstanding someone mount on 9" too.
Then to be safe I followed his suggestion.
I just checked the Michelin, Bridgestone, Dunlop, and Continental tire specs.? All MFRS show recommended rim width of 8 - 9.5 inches for 245/40 18.? No reason for dealers reluctance on a 9 inch width.? A reputable tire store would have this info and not have any hesitation nor would I be concerned.
