I just heard that Bridgestone have a brand new tire for Nordic conditions that is 30% better and improved over there other tires

I do live in Canada...The great white north !!!!Having said that I live in Toronto! Our winters are comparable to upstate New York or Chicago....
We're right on Lake Ontario and we get hit with 3 or 4 big storms a season, the rest of the time it's just cold with a lot of slush and occasional snow.
The Nokian RSi are R rated at 170 kmph which seems a little low in comparison to the others which are all V rated at 210 kmph. Don't get me wrong...we don't have the Autobahn here but I do drive around 140 kmph regularly and I would think if the tire is rated at 210 it leaves me a lot of margin and it would handle great at quicker speeds and on cold dry roads.
If I lived further north, I wouldn't hesitate on the Nokians....but here in Toronto the Nokians might be a little too much!!

But that's one of the reasons I can drive in any conditions.
I.e. now we have had temps around zero Celsius for a week, plus/minus freezing.
The roads can be blank ice on a bridge on in a misty area but they be only wet also.
Other smaller roads can be icy with snow ontop.
Most drivers use spike tyres in winter for this reason overhere.
My soft Conties actually keep my on the road and I love them.

PS. Used to live in Michigan, driving summer tyres all season,
whith those big US RW cars.

I have to disagree. I live North of Boston and we can have some brutal weather, although not consistently, enough times during the winter to be painful. I do not think the Nokians can possibly be too much when I have my family in the car. I'll go with Nokians all the way, in the event I really need them. Better safe than sorry.

I went with M3's in 225/45-18. I had M2's on my e46 and was happy with them. I'm in the Detroit area and the roads generally get cleared pretty well, so performance in cold/dry conditions and lighter snow cover are more important than on ice or in deep snow.
