I'm looking for a used exhaust and there are more available coming off of 545/550's than 525/530's. Every aftermarket exhaust manufacturer has different part numbers between their 6 cyl and 8 cyl exhausts, so it is clearly not a direct fit to swap between cars with different engines. I contacted B&B previously when there was a V8 exhaust for sale and they said no problem for sound (basically it is the same muffler for both) -- only problem would be making it fit the car.

So I looked at realoem.com and there is clearly a difference at the forward mounting point (the rear by the bumper is the same which makes sense with the same bumper on both cars). The one for a V8 has different bracket and rubber hanger part numbers. Unfortunately I don't think you can just swap these parts out because I believe the pipe is also in a different location. So it would not be just a cut and clamp even with the different bracket and hanger. I searched before and couldn't find an answer to the fit issue. Does anyone know that answer for sure? If I could just swap the forward bracket/hanger I would consider buying a 8 cyl exhaust. Thanks.

The more I think about it, if it was as easy as swapping brackets, they would just make one model and supply the bracket to make it fit either car.

Oh well -- I'm still in the market for an aftermarket exhaust to fit a 6 cylinder if anyone has one they can sell.

The full Borla system looks nice -- I'm surprised no one here has talked much about it or tried it out. It not a bad price compared to some of systems that are basically just mufflers.

Still beyond what I can spend right now though! The credit card bill came in yesterday and my wife wasn't very happy -- springs/shocks and having them installed, 166 wheels, new tires and mounting, Koni's for my old car ('69 GTO convertible), and work on my bass boat motor and a new depth finder all hit the same bill! Tint is going to be about $400. I need a cheap exhaust solution or will have to wait a little while.

isnt that suspension setup great! I hear yeah on moola... I emailed borla and asked them why the 2 mufflers etc..you can find it on a dealer site for much less. Cheapest way to go is stainless maganflow muffler installed should set you back like 230 + or -

I do love the suspension set up!

I remember you posted an idea for using universal Magnaflow parts. You should give it a try -- then I can follow after you try it out like on the suspension.

The answer is YES!
Yesterday my friend gave me his B&B on his 545 and put it on my 530. It's actually the same size and fits the same. Just go to some custom exhaust shop and ask them to do it for you. They will most likely have to cut and bend some areas. The boss of the shop I went to actually told me that they just put different part numbers so they can just screw with buyers. Really easy, took about 1-1.5 hours for everything.

Fullstop!
(the engine is different: you need to modify it, if you want it fit)

Working from the back forward, the rear mounting brackets and hangers are the same (verified on realoem.com). The muffler itself is the same (at least for B&. Even if a manufacturer uses a different muffler between engines, it would be to fine tune the sound, not a major difference in internal construction/performance caracteristics.

The only real potential difference appears to be at the front mounting bracket/hanger and how the pipe is routed toward the muffler. So yes, you would have to modify it, but it doesn't sound like a big problem. Many people get full custom exhausts built -- a little modification of the pipe and hangers in this area wouldn't be hard for a good installer.

Is there something else you think is an issue?
