Hi Guys,

Some people here wrote that the tyres with the recommended size for (non-M5) E60 of 245/35 or 275/30 on 8.5x19 or 9.5x19 m166/m167 rims have a very streched look.

I?m little afraid, that rims in that dimmensions are wider than the tyres?

So to the m166 / m167 drivers:
Could you please post some pictures of your rims+tyres in viewing-angle from straight front- or back-side?

Thanks & greets
Lanikus

Stretched? No way. The size you stated are the size BMW recommends if you go to 19's. I don't have any pics, but do a search and you'll find plenty. I have 285/30 in the back on 166m wheels and it looks nice.

Hi Octo,

285/30 is the dimmension of M5. with 285/30 the picture is O.K. I know - but this size gives bigger wheels and therefore an inaccurate speedo (and therefore problems with DSC,etc....). That?s why 275/30 should be the right option to switch to 19s on non-M5.

So the question stays 275/30 on 9.5" rim looks that good?

You will only be 0.4 mph slower with 285 vs 275. Look here: http://forums.e60.net/index.php?s=&sho...st&p=307791. No one here has reported any DSC/DTC problems running 285s. I'm tempted to put my 275s up for sale and get 285s.

Hi guys,

now I?m little confused.

BMW recommends using 275/30 for 19" (e.g. with styling 172s). After re-calculating with the tyre-calculator I?ve seen, that 275/30 gives a too small wheel in comparison to my factory setup of 225/50/17s! On the other hand 285/30 gives accurate setup.

Width of tyres on m166/m167 rims ?-xxxxxxx.jpg
(Circumference of 2033mm for the 19" compared to 2062mm for the 17".)

This means, that using 275/30 gives inaccurate speedo/DSC/DTC of aprox. +1.4% and using 285/30 gives nearby accurate speedo. (so this reverses my previous statement from post #3).

Does this mean, when using 275/30 we?ve to go for speedo re-calibration?
Or is the difference of +1.4% just to ignore?

Yes, 285's are acctually a better fit than the BMW recommended 275's. I found that to be true in my research as well which is why I'm running 285's plus I always believe that wider is better.

I?ve m167 from M6. This is ET17 on rear axle. If I would use 285's, would there be any rubbering issues?

servus,

you will have real difficulty with the t?v in austria. not only because you are using alloys that have an offset not made for the e60, you are wanting to use tires that are also not recommended by bmw for the 60 - i am not sure how tough it will be to get the non-recommended tires approved by the t?v...
