Dont know about the E46, but the I changed my reflectors on my 07 E60 as soon as I got home from the dealer....Its just much more attractive with the added color.

As an unbroken field of color the Bangle rear is too trunk-heavy. The red reflectors break it up, making the butt seem less bulky and tall.
Why some black people wants to strainghten their hair and some white people wants to curl their hair?
My 04 Alpine white came with black inserts and I cannot stand it. Bought RRR from Beckers and it make a HUGE different.
I do the same for 06 550i. I switch painted one for RRR from my old car.
Just remember this "Different folks, different strokes". Need to remember this to live in this life and understand others.
Cheers.

I was watching this show, where a car designer left the slot for reflector on the side of the car so it would break up the long front. But the problem was they don't have the reflector for installation and the car needs to be ready for auction in 2 days so they have to scremble in the junk yard for parts.

My Ride: 2007 530i Silver Gray, Black Dakota Leather, Dark Poplar Trim, Premium Package, Sport Package (Bridgestone RFTs), Logic 7 Sound System, Nav System, Split Folding Rear Seats, Power Rear Sunshade, Park Distance Control.
An interesting follow-up: today in my work garage I parked next to an E60 with painted slots. My car's trunk/rear with red reflectors looked more compressed and sleek, closer to a pre-Bangle 5 series. This optical effect seems intentional.

Dont understand why some people here are wanting to put red reflectors in the rear bumper. All E46 guys paint them..... Looks cleaner without them.......
Its a matter of taste of course.
Here's my take, the painted inserts look odd in that they serve no purpose and you can clearly see the outline around them. Why are they there and what do they do, someone might ask?
Lastly, the red reflectors adds some interest to an otherwise large painted bumper area. I'll brainwash myself to think they make the rear seem wider and more aggressive. And,
they do by jove. CVT Benhogan
The black inserts are truly ugly.

I think that's exactly the purpose, beside than the Euro regulation to have rear reflectors.

haha crazy people are crazy.... If this car had reflectors, you guys would be like I WANT PAINTED ONES!!! Because its "Euro" i think some of you think its cooler, becez you can tell your buddies its the Euro version ect. My opinon it looks better without, but then again thats me, and i'm glad it doesnt have them. Some of you moders go crazy and mod every inch of your car, if they sell a part for it, your buying it just because it's another part to buy. And you know who you are, I use to be that person too...
