You need to remove the ECU from the car. When it gets to whomever they will download new software map into the ECU, thus the term "remapped ECU."
Yeah, I figured. So it's technically not a new "chip". It's just a remap of the exisiting chip/ECU currently in your car.

I need to find a place on the east coast that does this. I'd prefer someone local, so I could just take my car to them and not have to go without the car for a few days.

it can be done in a day, depending on how the shop is.

John is right. A competent shop will be able to remap the ECU in one day. My previous 545i took only 4 hours to complete. The majority of the time was downloading the new software map from a central server in London. The actual flash of the ECU took about 30 minutes.

I am surprised at all of these prices for software because Dinan has been tuning BMW software longer than anybody (they invented the term "chip" for BMW's) The price for their 550 software is only $499 and you can get that done at your local dealership without voiding any warranty!!

Sounds like a no brainer to me people.

Removal of top speed governor
Increase Redline by 200rpm
MUCH IMPROVED throttle response
modest hp and tq gains.

I have had mine for 8 months now and have not had one check engine light

I would totally do Dinan, but they don't make this chip for the E60 530i.

In my opinion, a remapped ECU is best effective when you have a CAI and free flow exhaust to go along with it.

Bro...The exhaust on the 08 550i sounds really good. It's definitely the best stock exhaust ever for a 550i from BMW.

Don't you think just adding the AFE CAI along with my remap would be enough? I don't know of anybody that makes a custom free flow exhaust for a 550i with M-Tech (as all 08 Sports have)

Thanks for your help VT.

Fight On!

I decided on the SinghAutosport remap and the AFE CAI. This will be taking place next week. Can't wait!

You rock J! You think the Sprint Booster, on top of the AFE CAI and the Superchip would make that much of a difference?

of course, didnt VT mention how much he had fun with his 545i with all those mods he added.
