Default A way to slightly lower 535xi and save money on bump stops

E60 strut mounts (i/xi) (31306775098) are interestingly the same strut mounts that are used on the RWD E9X vehicles. It is somewhat well known that RWD E9X owners will swap the E9X xi strut mounts (31336775097) for slight lowering (12mm drop). Also, the E9X xi strut mounts have a more rigid design with support ribs added. I tried this out and am pleased to say that the E9X xi strut mounts fit perfectly in the 535xi, which is great for a slightly lowered ride height! This would also work on the RWD E6X vehicles, however, they have better lowering options than us xi guys.

Also to note, the E6X xi strut bump stop (31306774699) only has the Genuine OEM option available ($34.29 a piece). I instead used the E9X xi bump stop (31336777636) from Febi Bilstein ($9.99 a piece). They are identical in dimensions except the E9X bump stop has a slightly tighter inner diameter, but fits on the 535xi strut with no problem!

Can you post the links to where you purchased the parts you swapped out, definitely interested in this solution.

I was looking into doing this a few years back before I stumbled across some H&R springs at the local pick n pull yard.

31306785962 is the front mounts you want, they are the LCI versions with normal length studs (31336775097 is for pre-lci x drive and have longer studs to accommodate a spacer on the pre-lci versions) other than that they are the same part. They will lower ~8mm over the 098 mounts (E90 sport suspension & E60 x-drive production until Sept 2008) and ~12mm over the 31336760943 mounts (E90 non-sport suspension, E60 x drive production oct 2008+ & rwd E60)

Clever idea. Just order the 962's. I will report back the amount of drop I get out of them when I install struts this week.
