Vented hood, DIY?
I really love the look of the vented hoods but i don't want to spend so much money for just a hood. I was wondering if anyone has done the cutouts themselves and applied vents underneath and rolled the corners of the cutouts?
I have an idea how to do it, but i searched today and cannot seem to find any vent pieces that aren't auto-zone ghetto.
Any ideas?

Really gonna try to ghetto rig some hood vents on an E60?
You are going to have to respray and custom mold/reshape the areas of the hood where the vents are welded(or bonded if you use fiberglass vents) to make it look half decent. And probably be into it just as much as you would if you bought and painted a CF replica hood.

I feel like its much easier, than one would think. Ill be doing the work myself as long as i can find vent peices that i can attach on the bottom of the hood instead of the top so they dont stick out and are flush like the picture above. Only thing i would have to design myself is pieces to cover the vents when it rains which i can do on autoCAD.

I also thought about doing this but what about the raised part in the middle that gives the hood different look?
If you do it please put some pics or the procedure

If you're going for that exact look, might as well buy that exact hood. I'm interested in doing a custom louvered hood though too. Interested in your progress. Please keep us posted.

the power dome as its called, you would have to completely design yourself. I was just going to skip that, i only want the hood vents.
But when i talked to my dad ( used to have a body shop ) he said that there is a good chance there will be stability issues of the structure of the hood if we cut into it.
I saw some people were attempting to try it on the e39 hood, but looks like they never finished.
Only other thing i can find was this s2k hood vent mod:

Good luck to ya!! If you can get it half way as clean as that S2000 hood I will be very impressed. Definitely interested to see this completed.
