I scratched that area with my nail and it almost definitely feels like plastic...

Hahaha... It is nerve wrecking... But I am not going to do it yet... I am just getting all the info I can so that when I get the LED's I am prepared... We will see...

Oh yea. This is major. If you finish cutting it, make sure you vacuum the shavings and clean the area good before you pull the circuit out. Tilt the unit where the headlight is aiming up. That way the shavings and rubber doesn't fall through the holes and end up in the eyebrow.
Also remember the position of the LEDs are facing. The new LEDs need to go back in exact. That's if you do not have a tester. If you have a tester, place the LEDs in, test, then solder.
Its not that hard. You have nothing to worry about. The circuit board is stronger and not as fragile as I thought. I hacked away at the plastic, pulled and yanked the board, desolder and each step, I thought my circuit board was f*cked. The real test was when I used the power supply that John borrowed from Eugene. We put the LEDs in, turned it on and nothing. I was like, "figures". But turns out the LEDs were reversed.
So the circuit board is pretty tough. BUT, doesn't mean go crazy with it. Do it right and be careful. There are still risk.
