I vote to stay legal. I used to go illegal for years. It was such a pain to find a place that would give me an inspection sticker. Like others have said, any tint is going to be an improvement in the looks category.

Because you have beige, I would go for the darker tint. I chickened out and got 50% (legal) front tint, but now wish I would've gone 20% (not legal) all around.

I live in New York and got 35% all around ... there dark enough especially during the night they look darker since my interior is black ... and I been pulled over by the cops numerous of times never got a ticket for tints opposed to other things for example my music being too loud 
... would of got 20% though but that's asking for trouble

Well, I ended up with 18%. Its perfect during the day and of course slightly dark at night. As far as the look goes, I think its about what I wanted. Again, in the past I went with 35% so this is definitely new for me. I'll post pics after a good wash.
