Are TPMS specific to wheel and car?
Ended up blowing a tire a couple hours ago on the freeway. Fun. Figure I'll replace all four tires since its about time to get new tires anyways. Couple questions since I would like to shop-for/add TPMS at the same time:
1) Will all TPMS work with the e60 BMW or are there some I should avoid?
2) Will I need TPMS fit specifically for my aftermarket wheels, or will one set of TPMS be compatible with almost every wheel available?

2. TPMS should work regardless of what type of aftermarket wheel you use, I haven't personally heard of any TPMS not functioning with aftermarket wheels.

It is my impression that TPMS works on my production date 09/2007 European 535d Touring. However, I have Alpina wheels where the valve is mounted in the centre of the rim, next to the bolts. To my knowledge it is a normal valve and does not have any TPMS sensor built in. I've spoken to another member with the same wheels who also seems to think it works. We've both reset our systems when the wheels were mounted and we've both had alerts when a tyre for some reason had differential pressure; whether that's a fluke or not I am not sure but I am of the impression that the LCI bases tyre pressure on ABS/DTC sensors and differential in rolling diameter on a tyre!
