This maybe a repeat question, but I can not find it!
I am ready to install M166 Front 19 by 8.5 Rear 19 by 9.5 wheel from Tony soon.
The tire is PS2 Front 245 by 35 and 19 Rear 275 by 30 and 19.
I have two questions: My car is 2006 530i
1. Is my Tire and Wheel combination correct? I am a dummy in this area
2. Am I supposed to also add TPM Monitor and valve? Do I have to have it?
I appreciate your help.

Yes if your car is not 'xi'.
2.
I am pretty sure the answer is no. Apart from M5, some of the the 07 onwards E60 have individual tire pressure sensors that require a sending unit inside each valve stem. The unit sends an actual tire pressure readout and displays on the idrive.
Normal E60 got the TPM which monitors the width of the tire in rotation to warn against a flat. Those no additional hardware is required inside the wheel.
In your idrive under vehicle setting it should say TPM 'active'.
Great wheels you got and those delicious tires too. Congrats!

Just to clarify (2) Does this mean each valve stem that may come with the wheel do the sending?

I just bought 166's in the past month and PS 2's You could have also gone 285/30-19's in the rear. The front is where its more critical. Use 245/35-19's there.

I don't think the 06 came with TPM but rather FTM which dont require TPM's in each tire. The TPM unit screws onto the hidden side of each valve stem.
I'm considering a separate set of winter wheels/tires for an '08, and was wondering if I need to purchase and have installed a second set of TMP sensors, or whether I could easily "swap" the sensors that came with the stock tires. If "hidden side" means that the TMP sensor are attached to the inside of the valve stem in each tire, then a "swap" would be difficult and a second set would be needed. Is this correct, or can the sensors be easily swapped?

Follow-up question on this discussion.

Sensors can be easily swapped just make sure a proffesional does it or else they can get damaged pretty easy...

How are they installed? Do they go in through the valve stem, or do you need to pop the tire from the rim to get to them? I haven't a clue on these. All I know is that I do know that I need the newer TMP sensors as that's what the new system requires.
Thanks,
Lou
Thanks,

There are two parts you need to order for each wheel..
36-14-6-759-741 Valve $21.64/ $13.04
36-23-6-779-490 Module $62.21/$45.55
The first price is the "list" price on my invoice, the second price is the "net" price I paid.
Attached is what they look like:

They are mounted to the inner side of the valve stem. A tire shop would need to break down the tire. It doesn't have to come completely off the rim, but they need to break the bead down to get to the sensor module.

That's what I thought. Breaking down the tire is a lot more involved, and having a set for winter tires already installed is, to me, the way to go.
I did receive a quote from a BMW dealer's parts shop valve stems, and a different number was used (36-11-1-095-375). I doubt that makes a difference though. The module number was the same.

So technically if you store your summer setup and not use it, it may not need to rebalance when you reput the sensors back in, but it's not an easy task so I would just get a 2nd set, so you can just easily swap the whole wheel setup
