...Just trying to help someone who was thinking about going with new wheels in a newer model without the new technology.
Can you put effective TPMs on wheels where the car systems don't have the appropriate receiver and software configured?

Is this a vote of no confidence in the "reducing rolling radius"/"increasing wheel revs" ABS sensor method?

I wonder what the tolerances are in theis older technique?

ABC
I have the older ABS method in my car and have had the FTM give me a warning at a roughly 5-7 psi differential in one tire, actually quite similar to the warning that the TPM gave. I know this because the old system doesn'y actually tell you which tire so you are forced to check all four. Unfortunately my issue was from a nail causing a very slow leak...

Thanks for all, my 2006 750Li is without sensors, it uses FTM, so 07 E60 has TMPS, the owner of the wheels told me I can put sensors on, or I dont have to, so I think he is wrong.

2007 and beyond-----> TPM Sensors (must have them or you will trigger warning light).

2006 and before ------> Cannot use TPM Sensors.

What are the visual features of the TPMS (Can I tell by looking at the valve)? How can I determine if it has it besides the year it was produced?

Go to your Idrive. It will tell you if you have TPMs and it will show them as active.

If you have a 2007 model, chances are that you have TPMs.

You can also tell by the valve stem. On TPMS cars, the valve is all metal...
