I live in So Cal. I only have to worry about rain, no snow.
I'd guess most SoCal guys are running summer tires year round. You still could go A/S for the rain, but unless it's quite a bit, it's probably not necessary.

Hey CWS530, I live in Southern Arkansas; would you recommend the Michellin PS2 or A/S for here. Is there a big differece between the two?

Thanks a bunch.

I'd recommend the A/S since you probably do get some cold weather, right? (Sorry, not that familiar with the climate there.)The advantage to the A/S over the PS2 is that it will remain "soft" in cold temperatures. The PS2 is a summer tire and will tend to harden in the cold. -Calvin

Don't get the Goodyear asymmetrics unless you realy like tires that flat spot over night and defy balancing. They have turned my 545i sport into a moving shihatsu(sp) chair. Although they are much quieter than RFT's and handle as well or better, the vibration issues have really turned me off to these tires.
I hope they were road forced balanced properly. I had Goodyears on my previous car and only during road force balancing did they find out that 3 out of 4 had problems...

I decided on the Brigdestone RE760s. I paid $176 installed, almost the same as the price on tirerack.com.

They as sooooo quiet. Handling seems to much better on canyon roads. I will know more when I get more than 100 miles on the tires.

Everything points to getting rid of the RFTs and buying a high performance tire.

Good call. That's a pretty good deal on a quality tire. Let us know how they perform over time.

i've heard so many good things bout michelin PS2 and decided to change to PS2 when my dunlop runflats have worn out. however although the ride is less harsh now, the high speed cornering stability has worsed off.. does it need to run in in order to perform well? totally no confidence at all when cornering at high speeds..

even my slk 230 with 17inch rims and tyres gives me more confidence.. what could be the problem? or is it really that RFTs have better cornering stability at high speeds compared to normal performance tyres???

tyre pressures are correct.. have travelled bout 300km on the PS2s...

My Dad has non RFT tires on his '04 525 sport "17rims and I have Bridgestone RFT on '06 530 sport "18rims, both OEM rims, and there is a big difference in how much more planted and solid my car feels. There is so much more wiggle in the sidewall of his tires, which is virtually non existent on mine. A simple check is to push the tire/wheel with your foot as hard as you can perpendicular to wheel rotation. If the sidewall is soft, the car will rock from side to side and you will clearly see how much more sidewall flex there is.
