My Ride: 2005 BMW 545i, Titanium Silver. Bridgestone 760s on Weds Bavaria II 18" wheels, standard sport pack size. Sport, AT. Latest job - NGK Iridium IX plugs installed.

Ditch Runflats? Yes, the first thing I did.
How does it compare? No comparison. Ride is quieter, grip is better, tread lasts longer
Which tires? I used Bridgestone RE760, rears nearing the end of its life at little over 30k miles. Grip has been superb in the wet, could use a little more in the dry. The fronts could go another 20-25k miles, I think.

I need to replace the two rear tires on my '06 530i with sport package, 245/40R18. I have run flats. I am considering changing all four to non-run flats.

Would you change from run flats to non-run flats?

Any suggests on which non-run flat to change to?

What has been your experience on non-run flats?
My car is in the midwestern part of USA. I am thinking of good snows for the winter and Bridgestone Pole Position 960s for remainder of year.

Tire Rack has charts showing numerical ratings of the tires they sell. Discount Tire has reviews also. Both are great companies. I buy all my tires from Disc Tire cause there are 2 stores near my house.

Decide what you want in a tire:

low noise level
long tread life
(lack of) hydroplaning
(perf in) wet conditions
(perf) dry conditions
light snow
med snow
etc.

Tire Rack evaluates these factors and many more. At least one other member agrees with this.

(See his/her post.)

Change to non-run-flat, you will get a more smooth ride. The best tires would be Michelin PS2,
+1

I'm much happier with the PS2's.

Cheers

Has anybody ever run on the PS2 A/S (all season version) ? They are supposed to have substantially better tread life, but I wonder/worry about the loss of handling. I have never seen a comparison between the A/S version and the Summer version.

I have them. They are fantastic tires. I don't need dedicated snow tires where I live, but we get a bit of the white stuff, so they fit the bill. Are they as good as snow tires? No way! Are they as grippy as regular PSs in the dry? Probably not. But, they are very close. They really do well in the rain--the control is amazing--much better than regular PSs I bet. You will not be disappointed with these tires unless you drive like a maniac around corners in dry weather all day long--autocross-style.

Thank you for all of your suggestions.

I have found the Brigestone Potenza RE760 for $176 and the Michelin Pilot Sport A/S Plus for $245 for a local store.

Are the Michelins worth the extra money?

Please give me your great feedback.

Thanx to all that have responded!!!

Just got them and they are wonderful!!!
The handling characteristics are far superior to the Dunlop runfats.
Recently, I tested them on some challenging mountain twisties and they just begged for more speed.

I've heard good things about the re760s. The biggest difference is that the re760 is a high performance summer tire and the Michelin you mention is a high performance all-season tire. If you live in a four-season climate that is moderate, then A/S is a great way to go. If you need dedicated snow tires, go with a summer tire, then get some winter tires. If you're in a place (can't tell your location) like CA, SoTX, FL, etc, you could run summer tires year round. If it rains a lot, the A/S is a great year round tire as well. I have them (MPS A/S), and I'd put them up against anything in the wet. GL on your decision.

I live in So Cal. I only have to worry about rain, no snow.
