I don't think it can be turned off except for maybe disconnecting the power or covering the rear-facing sensor on the rear-view mirror.

Or you could put a little piece of tape (what you've cut just the size and shape of the sensor) over the sensor on the rear view mirror.

That's what I was trying to say when I said cover the sensor....

The following might help you figure out how to disconnect the sensor completely. I can't be 100% sure that if you disconnect the wire if you'll still have the rain sensor, garage door opener, and flashing red alarm indicator. Hopefully you'll find discreet wires for each module so that you can keep everything but the dimming circuit energized!

Good luck...

Umm I think hes talking about the passenger mirror... as in the right side mirror not the interior (middle rear view mirror)

Sorry I dont have an answer... All I can say is roll down your windows.

The side mirrors are dimmed along with the center mirror. In other words, they all use the same sensors built into the rear-view mirror that I described so by removing wires to the sensor, the outside mirrors should no longer dim (unless, on the other hand, it causes them to dim significantly!)

To verify my theory, the following quote can be found in this document: SBT__Door_mirrors_E60.pdf
Electrochromic door mirrors
Electrochromic door mirrors automatically dim the mirror glass if a source of light from the rear is detected. The electrochromic door mirrors are directly controlled by the electrochromic rear-view mirror. The electrochromic rear-view mirror has 2 sensors that measure incident light from the front and the rear. A voltage signal is output (the strength of which depends on the difference in intensity between the light from the front and the rear) if the light from the rear is more intense. The greater the voltage signal, the more the mirror glass is dimmed.

roost, that must be a pretty dark tint. I have 36% and haven't noticed the same problem you have, at least I don't think I do. 'Course I have had excellent night vision since an operation a couple of years ago.
