I recently got my windows tinted (35% all around), and I'm experiencing something that I don't consider normal. When driving at night (ie. highway), other vehicle headlights seem to make a vertical blur of light in my rear window. I don't really know how to describe it, but my guess is that the rear window heaters (those orange line) and the small gaps between them and the tint, are causing this issue. I will try to post a picture, but meanwhile, does anyone experience this problem or can help me better decribe this issue?

Unless BMW uses special glass on their rear windshields, you shouldn't have any probs if your tint was installed correctly. I've had tint on several cars with rear defogger lines and never had the problem you are describing.

Maybe the tint needs to be cleaned, but you probably have to wait a few weeks after the installation for the tint adhesive to completely dry.

Yes, I have the same problem even after 3 months!!! its not the drying problem.

Basically this is how it will appear in night... and the more cars in rear, the more line reflections u will see.

I had Formula One film put on my 535i about 3 weeks ago. The film is metallic and is 35%. I do not have the problem with light reflection in the rear window you described.

BTW I choose metallic because of the slight mirror reflection as seen from the outside. Using the metalic film means that the AM radio reception is blocked. If I wanted to listen to the AM radio then I would have used the ceramic film.

On the other cars I've had I have also used metallic film and had no problem with the light reflection you are describing. I'd first try cleaning the inside of the film with NON ammonia based window cleaner as well as the outside glass. If you still get that double reflection then I'd go back to the shop that applied it as something doesn't sound right.

I think some Rear windows have that problem.. not the Tint or the installer prob.

I had my done at CarPretty in PA, they did many BMW's seems only mine have that prob

Initially I had LLUMAR 35% all-around Charcoal metallic tint, which was perfect.. then the rear has these reflections at night. So they removed it after complaining and put in non-metallic dyed charcoal tint, still same prob

YES! this is exactly my problem! I will go back to the shop and ask them, however has anyone figured out exactly why? I took a look at my side windows and noticed that each window had a BMW logo printed on. The tint which is over it, you can see the "gabs" between the tint and window, as in the tint is not completely flesh against the lettering. Is this causing the problem with the defroggers and reflective lighting?

I didn't go through BMW to get my tints done. The shop I went to was through referals. However, EVERYONE in town recommands this shop. 90% of their business is dealer work, and the day that I got my car done, 2 new LCI e60s were inside the shop as well.

Hi,

I see the same thing from my rear view mirror. I had assumed that reflection comes from the tint film "hugging" the rear window defoger strips. Because the film have to, sort of, go around the strips, it creates a little ripple each time the film touches a defoger strip. It is the ripples in the film that causes the light to distort and creates the line reflections.

I've gotten used to it and it does not bother me....
