So how much you're ready to pay!
Thanks Vlad. I dismounted my splitter today for the winter and I don't know what to think about the almost stock look...

I have 4 166 for winter tyres too.
With the car empty (just the driver) it has only a decent grip. With 4 people on board, skis on the roof and luggages in the boot the car goes very well also with 275.

And I'm pretty sure the tires would be studded if I'm upgrading... Very highly they would be Nokian Hakkapeliitta 7's. Trust the natives !

I'm a little confused by the answers here -- that's probably to do with it being Sunday evening and my brain being on "stand by mode" rather than anyone else having written something wrong ...
If you are considering 18" 245s, why not consider 19" 245s? Other than tyre price, why not? Or are you only considering going for up to 225s?

The bigger the wheels, the lower the profile (height) of the sizewalls and consequently, the less protection against road hazards. Using 19s will mean that you'd have to use a lower profile tire than you'd use on 18 inch wheels.
Probably yet another stupid question, but hey, I'm on a roll... ... why is this more of a problem in winter than in summer where lots of you drive with 19s or 20s? Do the roads get damaged more in winter or is it the same roads but you can't see the holes / damaged surface because of the snow?
(As I wrote earlier, so far I have been fortunate to drive in areas where there is not that much snow and/or on well prepared main roads.)

OK, that makes sense if you expect to be using bad roads.
