Say for example, with a $2,000 and under wheel and tire package, in most casses, the 20" will give you more lip than the same wheel in a 19".
Another point with the 19", is that most people run a 245/35/19 and a 275/30/19, which will not change your ride height by much. It is pratically the same overall diameter as your stocks.
Now with the 20"s, you have to different tire options.
Option 1
- 245/30/20 and 285/25/20 . This will keep everything close to the 19" diameters, but you have a really thin sidewall. This will make the ride rougher and increase the chance of bending or even cracking wheels. Depending on wheel offsets, with the 285/25/20 rear tires, you may have to roll the fenders if your lowered.
Option 2
- 245/35/20 and 275/30/20. This is what I usually go with. Its a little more pothole friendly than the 20" tire setup above. This will give you a decent amount of sidewall, but these are going to be taller than your OEM wheel and tire combo. With the added sidewall heights means that the 20"s will pretty much ride like the 19's. The biggest negative with this setup is that if your car is lowered, you may run into issues with the fronts rubbing somewhere.
