I have to disagree with you Phil. Tinting the red makes the turn signal stand out like a sore thumb.
I would say tint the turn signal or tint the whole tail light.

With a black car, tint the entire tail light. I love that look.

But if you are only tinting part of the tail lights, do the red part as it adds a nice contrast to the clear.

I would honestly go with paint, it looks SOO much better, and you can always trade with someone on the forum when the time comes to sell the car...

If you must tint I personally prefer the manner in the attached picture ... of course you have to be really talented with a magic marker to get it to look like this
