My Ride: 2006 550i sport package, manual, black on black w/ anthracite trim, pdc, logic 7, cold weather pkg.
Are there any benefits from adding a splitter to the front bumper or is
it just asthetics?
I thought maybe it would help keep the front end down at high speeds.

Its all for looks.
There is no way the designers of the splitters would waste time and money for R&D.

they do TONS of R&D on their vehicles. they're very reputable and have been around longer than most companies.

correct. aerodynamically, splitters are used for more downforce at the front at higher speeds to prevent the front end lifting up. but as dbae said, not really noticeable for most.
