Congrats in your mod! I had the resonators removed on my 550i as well and replaced with a y pipe. I agree with you that my car sounds much more aggressive than it did before.

Guys/Gals,
The resonators' main purpose is not back pressure. It is to minimize certain frequency so you do not hear the droning at certain exhaust pressure load. When that does not reduce the sound level down to an acceptable level, a combination of mufflers (downstream) and valve(s) are used. The droning frequency is around 90 hz.
Look inside a resonator and all you see is a straight through design with preforation around the inside tube. There are variations, but that is base design for resonators. It is very much like cherry bombs with the exception that some cherry bombs have insulation filled between the inner tube and the outer cover.
The kink in your pipes will not produce backpressure either. Your OEM muffler is what is still creating the backpressure.
Now, if you remove your muffler, put in either a H pipe or X pipe, that does create some back pressure. The exhaust sound is mainly tuned by the muffler you used. Do your research and it will save you some headache (no puns intended) and ask questions before proceeding.

Congrats. You should put a X-pipe in.
Anxious to hear how it'll sound too. Wonder how different it'll sound compared to my old 545i with Cherry Bomb glasspacks. Man I miss that sound.

With the resonators removed, I havent had any issues with droning. Just a nice aggressive sound when I step on the throttle.

I cant speak to the v8 but when I removed the resonators on my I6 it only made the exhaust note more "garbly" and not a clean sound. Thought it sounded a lot worse even though it was louder. This was with an rpi muffler
