OK, after a number of sleepless nights (j/k, of course), I finally got the SB that I bought on ebay this afternoon. Sure enough, the seller uses generic pictures for his auctions and the item I received was exactly the same as everyone's SB. Two hours later it was installed and everything went just so smoothly that I kept thinking I'm not doing things right. I put it in, started the car, no error messages, no revving, nothing. I put the whole assembly together, brought my tools back into the house and went for a quick ride up and down Rt 78... God, this thing is amazing! I regret every single day of ownership before I bought it. ROI is very, very high and I recommend it to everybody.
Thanks for all the support and for helping me relax when I was yelling and screaming that I got screwed. This board rules.
