Navigation successfully retrofitted
It took me more than 3 months of gathering all the parts needed (parts shipped from Germany, Europe, etc)
I did all the installation, and yes, installation of new Idrive was PITA
I lost all sound (because navigation was from 550 with L7)
+current position was incorrect. (I live in LA, but the navigation showed I was in San Diego)
I finally took my car to a dealer to program.
There was no guarantee if it would work.
I spent literally 8 hours at a dealer waiting. (luckily, I was only charged a couple hours of labor)
after 8 hours of waiting, my service advisor told me that navigation works, but there's no sound.
It was very disappointing.
I got in my car thinking that I would put old system back in because there was no point of having navigation while losing all sound (no radio, no warning alert)
I put my home address and clicked "start guidance".....current position was accurate
There was a lady voice guiding ways...I was little bit surprised that navigation voice worked
I turned on radio to see if I really lost all sound.....it was working fine.
sound was better than old system. (I was assuming probably because new system still uses L7 configuration...bass was deeper+louder than old system)
Yes, retrofitting worked for me and I can't be any happier
