Someone double check my logic, please (BST cable fault)
Appearing conveniently right before my state inspection.. I got a Systems Restraint System warning. Seems to happen way too often.. However, in this case it was my BST cable reading incorrect resistance.
I'm not a EE major, but I'm pretty sure resistance is a material property and doesn't just change on its own. Am I the only one who thinks this is bogus? To double check, I measured the cable's resistance from end to end and confirmed it with what I've dug up online as the correct resistance, 2.5 ohms.
The service rep wasn't positive, but he believed the problem was a result of my speaker system wired directly to the battery, in parallel to the BST cable. This also seems fictitious considering that system has been wired that way for almost two years.
Am I wrong in thinking that I got screwed over here, since the cable had to be reset in order to pass my state inspection, and since it's a BMW fault, had to be done through the dealership? Enlighten me. And thanks.
I paid $125 for a diagnosis, and ~$540 for the part/job. Original invoice was diagnosis plus ~$840. Side note, I highly do NOT recommend Mike Kline from Casey BMW in Newport News, VA.

What exactly did they do for $840? I hope that wasn't just for a reset.
I recently had a BST "high resistance" warning and had it cleared. Haven't had it come back on yet. Could have been the random German electrical gremlins...
