Hey All,

I believe my new-to-me 545i has Sirius Radio ready to roll; I just need to get a plan in place.

I tried to search the forum for info but most of it focused around installing Sirius, not just the plans. I've never purchased satellite radio of any type and am not sure what the pricing should be like, what advantages it offers, how the reception and functionality works in the 5-series, etc.

I'm a big music and sports fan so I think it is worth looking into. Please let me know what packages / plans you have, how you like the service, etc. if you have a minute to chime in. Just want to make sure I don't jump at a $20/month plan if others are paying $5-$10.

Thanks!
Andy

Hi there.

Here are my experiences with setting up Sirius on my wife's MB.

The only thing you need to get activated is the receivers serial ID#, a credit/bank card, and a phone. You should be able to get the receiver ID from an iDrive menu. Once you call Sirius, a rep will talk you through the connection process - should only take a few minutes. Just remember to have the car outdoors (you most likely won't get reception if in a garage) and to completely turn off the car (allow electronics to go in sleep mode 4-5 mins) before turning it back on in order to completely reset/initialize the receiver.

Check out Sirius' website for their packages. The music selection is good and the cost starts at about $10 per month. You can add more channels and get internet streaming to PC (at CD quality) for a few bucks more. With all the bells and whistles the cost can run about $20 give or take.

As for cons: IMO the sound quality via satellite reception is crappy for a service you have to pay for (I have HD radio factory installed and even though its enhanced FM radio, the difference in sound is tons better than Sirius and its FREE). Also, to meet compliance with federal laws you will now pay a surcharge for royalty fees. It turns out to be a few bucks extra per bill - but the whole thing is just a b/s scam the RIAA got pushed through to make up money lost from illegal file sharing and the legal fees associated with prosecuting its offenders.

Overall, if you can accept the cons I mentioned I'm sure you will like the service. Especially if you spend alot of time in the car or drive long distances. Either way its definitely worth a try. GL!
