Can someone tell me if the dealer can add the sirius option to a vehicle on the lot that does not have it or does it have to be ordered with that option?

Thanks

95% sure, yes. I think all are now sent from the factory with the Sat Radio prep. Should be on the sticker too. It is an easy install at the dealer.

It would also depend on the build date -- earlier cars (2003 & 2004) had to have the "satellite radio prep" (pre-wiring) option for them to be able to add the radio at the dealer...

Why would you want sirius? For new or music? If for music, you're looking at the wrong place. For news, well, maybe OK.

I love Sirius for music. I use it all the time. The songs I want without the commercials!

Well I currently have XM and love it. Since I don't want to add an out of date CD changer, and the BMW is still behind the times with a single in dash cd and no storage I would like a few more options. ie Sirius and Ipod. The vehicle I am looking at is brand new 07 so I presume it could be done?

New '07, yes it can be done... I enjoy Sirius. Agreed, I'd prefer XM as that is what I have at home and I do think the music is better, but that is a matter of personal taste. The issue I have with Sirius is that they actually have DJ's who do spend quite a bit of time talking nonsense. XM, aside from the occasional promo for the channel you're on or some other XM channel, has no DJ's talking for the most part. But both are far superior to the standard AM/FM in terms of content, both music and news/sports.

I ended up getting my Sirius factory installed on my 07, however, the dealer said could be added later by them if I did not buy with my order. I think he said they charged $100 more than the $595 charged by factory. I really enjoy satellite for news AND music. glad I got it. Some good variety niche staions like Jazz, classical, classic rewind, etc. Plus when you get factory installed you get the first year of subscription for free, I think thats worh $100 or so.

Good point by Tomv. But if you do get the Sirius added by the dealer, ask for the first year free offer from BMW. When I had mine installed two years ago, its was the same offer but my install was done by my dealer. To activate the radio you call in and provide info including radio unit number etc. You also chose the plan you want (1 yr, 2 yr etc). I told them it was installed in a new BMW and thought the first year was free and they said yes it was. Worth trying, all they can say is no.

I bought a BMW Sirius receiver off of eBay. It was never activated. As a result I was able to get the first year free when I activated it.
