Hello all,
When my body shop called me and told me that the skirts do not fit correctly the first thing I did is call the dealer and they told me that that part number does not exist and that the m-tek and m5 part numbers are the same and different from what I have. I triple checked that number..that is exactly what is on the inside of the skirt...looks like a bmw part# but it is unrecongonized by BMW. It also has a bmw logo along with an M5 + MP on the inside of the skirt... At this point I am just going to have to deal with it because I have some money invested in them...
possibly a bad repro trying to pass off as a genuine BMW part with a fake part # similar to BMWs, eh?

I know that the m5 fender is a little smaller because my stock fender does not line up correctly with the OEM M5 front bumper but do you guys think it will close that gap where the fender meets the skirt??

I paid $125 for them and the return shipping would be another $75 I would have to dish out...not even worth it. I would also have to try to explain to ebay how I bought an M5 part (not really but for the sake of argument we will call it an M5 part) for a non M5 car and I am returning it because it did not fit. I think it will be an uphill battle! Plus at a 100 MPH you will never notice the gap!

If you guys saw the inside of the skirt you would think they are OEM...I kind of think they are from another country...perhaps there is an M5 with a shorter whell base??? Who would put so much effort into making something that looks OEM on the inside and not fit correctly???

Hi all

Did anyone ever get to the bottom of this eventually ?

Plastic parts such as side skirts, would they always necessarily have part numbers on them ? Can they often carry different numbers which are not the same as the latest parts catalogue ?

51777896837 and 51777896838 are found on the skirts but are unknown when checked with BMW. They only know the skirts as 51777907177 and 51777907178.

Any thoughts ?

All BMW parts must carry the part number where possible per the GS standard. In cases such as this where colors are involved the number on the part would be the all color or drawing number. Replacement parts would be ordered in the same way since they would come unpainted. You would also see a production date wheel and Ai matrix showing what Ai level the part is. My guess is that the part number listed on the part was a BS part number by the seller.
