Hi Guys

I browsed through EBay and found a China clone OPS for something like 400USD. I thinknthat is really cheap - in particular if it works

Now, the question is: "Do I need one?"

I already have a ODB cable which I have used for NCSExpert, INPA, DIS, Tool32 and actually once WinKFP to update the AHL module. I guess the OPS would only be needed if I want to upgrade MOST modules - but all modules got upgraded a year ago, so I guess there is nothing newer to upgrade to?

So pointless to get the OPS?

Thanks,

Seems a bit pointless if you are only doing some DIY coding once in a while.

Yeah - I think you are right. I guess I was looking for an excuse to get one

There is a standalone version of ISTA/P that seems to work with OPS, so it may not be such a bad thing to buy. I have one sitting, that I will either sell or pair up with a copy of ISTA if I can get my hands on it...

Buy one, use it and then rent it out to other forum members. Even if you charge 50 bucks a rental period you will claw back your money in no time and there will many diyers on here that will hire it out.

I did exactly that when I need to update my OPS connected ECUs e.g. CIC, Combox, L7 amp, CDC etc. In my case I didn't pay anything for the hire because I helped the guy who bought the OPS set up his system himself, he bought it buy didn't know how to use it. I knew how to use it but didn't have one and didn't want to pay for one just to program my car once.

Good point Although I am not sure I want to make a business out of it

Sublime: what will I get with ISTA/P that I can not do with the Standard Tools and DIS?

You don't have to make a business out of it then. Just offer it up to people for shipping costs both ways and a beer maybe.
