Hi,
Does anyone know if the Peake tools work with the E60's? I replaced my battery and I have no throttle response, only idle and service engine soon light is on. its almost like the accelerator pedal is unplugged. Called dealer and they said this happens sometimes and car needs to be initialized. I'll probably pay the same amount for a tool than the $300 they want. Thanks

I've seen on ebay and craigslist laptops with software and some connectors that suppose work just like GT1 computers that BMW dealers use but I have no idea how it works. It costs a lot more than $300, about $2k but if you intend on driving bmw's for the next couple of decades it may be well worth the investment. If anyone here has one of those please let us know if it's worth investing in one and does it really work just as GT1.
I invested in the unit laptop based as i do a lot of retro fit work.
I also have an original BMW GT1 unit which will code upto 2004 cars anything after that you need the OPPS/OPS head to use through the MOST port. Taken me a good 2 months of continous use to get around it all its awesome.
I will soon have access to the new BMW virtual server software as i believe BMW are changing all there diagnostic and programming options in all there dealerships.
You could try to take the battery off for 5 mins or so and see if that clears your fault as all the newer BMW's spike very easily !

When doing a search on ebay for "BMW GT1" there is a bunch of stuff that comes up, its around 1200 w/o a laptop and 2400 w/laptop. Why exactly would you need a laptop (unless you don't have one). The listings talk about a HDD that comes it, why don't they just send the software on a DVD-ROM that you can install on any PC? Does the software have to run on an IBM T30 laptop?
Most of these are shipped from Hong Kong, it makes me wonder if they just copied the original one from BMW. Its not a bad price condering everytime you go to the dealer ship your looking at a minimum of $200.
