Allright I know that most of you are aware that the BMW's twin turbo series will soon beat us V8 owners in the future due to the upcoming mods. I'm sure that pretty much all the 535/335 owners have a grin on their face when reading this

If we're talking Standard, then yes the V8s will surely stand a chance against the Twin turbos (335i/535i) but apparently its not a happy ending for us because over a VERY simple and CHEAP remap (under $1500), the 300 hp Twin turbos you once knew will now become 375 hp or maybe even more. That is 15 more HP than our standard 550/650/750 models

This is a bit unfair for us V8 owners since there's no mods that can improve our performance that greatly (unless you go with the Racing Dynamic's R54 motor conversion, spend about what $20,000?)

We must seek a solutionnnnn!!! Long live the V8

You can't get a Alpina B5 in the US. It'll put the M5 to shame... gobs and gobs of torque.

You know how to solve this VT, get a E63, right?

Remember when you modify a car engine from stock to get excessively more (75+ HP) power, the engines reliability goes down very fast. Ask anyone who has done this. These software mods raise the boost of the tiny turbos to the limit if not above. If the 335/535 could make 375HP reliably then BMW would build them this way. You can make any car fast but making it fast, reliable and with a warranty is difficult. There will always be a faster car then yours. Enjoy what you have and don't worry about others. When your stock V8 has 100,000+ miles and still going strong and the modded twin sixes need re-built engines, you will be the one grinning. Remember everything comes with a price.

300hp is what BMW has stated as the output of the twin turbo I-6. This rating has been considered conservative by several other sources that have test driven this car and estimates in the 320 - 340hp rating have been mentioned. I'm sure dyno-test results will be taken in the future to confirm this.

It would be interesting to see how much boost the two turbos are set for at the factory. Must factory settings are on the low end of the scale to reduce potential warranty costs. But I'd bet these turbos could be tweaked to provide way more than 375hp and the engine will still be reliable.

But to be fair, contrary to me owning a 535 I've always believed in the saying "There is NO replacement for DISplacement". And yes - I agree that a N/A 8 cylinder engine will almost always outlive a power added 6. But I already own a V-8 car and decided the extra 7k diff between the 535 and 550 would be better spent on ventilated seats and dare I say it........night vision

Look at the size of these tiny turbos. The wastegate is as large as the the turbo itself. These turbos are very tiny so they spool very fast (no lag) and run out of steam at the top of the rpm range. These turbos will not last very long at high boost. Sure the car will be fast but reliability will be greatly reduced. Like I said before if it could be done BMW would have done it in the factory.
