My SA just told me that an iPod will not work if I have NAV. If this is not true, is there a bulletin or other source I can go to to show her that I can use an iPod (yes, I know it cannot be controlled through the steering wheel controls - only with the iPod itself)? Please help!
iPod cannot interface with E60. Period.
Workaround is installing AUX and connect lineout/headphone to AUX. Don't ever tell your BMW to install AUX for iPod. Just tell them to install AUX and that's it because it might confuse them with the iPod interface in 3-series.

Not true. I have nav & had the aux input installed. Here's install instructions:
5_series_aux_input.pdf
Sounds like your dealer is confusion the aux input (which is a generic audio input using a mini stereo jack, and doesn't offer any integration with iDrive) with the iPod connector (which is not yet available on the E60, but on the other BMW models that it's available on, is not compatible with nav).

IPOD is one thing, the AUX in is another. If you talk to a dealer and say IPOD you are lost for ever.
if you say "AUX in" port then you will get some semblance of acknowledgement and a probable result

As said, DO NOT MENTION IPOD when asking for Aux in to be installed, they will get confused and tell you its not available
If they want proof it fits, tell them to check the parts system

I have the Aux input with Nav, $150 to install...works great except the steering wheel button does not see the input so need to use I drive to get to the input...worth the money, haven't used the CD changer since.
Recommend you get the car interface (belkin). this provides one connection for output and charge, overrides the volume control, and provides for flatter frequency response.
If anyone knows how to set up access through the steering wheel, let me know.
