My Ride: 545i Mystic Blue/Black Leather Type 124 Wheels
Most run-flat tres require a wheel with a EH2 hump. BMW has been incorporating this in their wheels for quite a while now.
Continental is advertising here that there new run-flat tires dont require this EH2 Hump. Quote from press release this month "unlike our competators tires"
The EH2 hump is what helps keep the sidewalls on the rim when the wheel fails
You can fit normal tires to a wheel with EH2, but a run-flat that needs it wont wok on a wheel without it ( it will fit, but will fail to stay on the rim in a blowout )
This all was confirmed to me by a leading tire specialist here

"Whereas certain systems marketed by competitors require special wheels, the run-flat systems from Continental can be used on conventional wheels."

This is not correct. The wheel is not different. The same wheel can run RunFlat and regular tires. There is no extra lip on wht wheel.
The Dunlop runflat tire on the other hand has a rib on the sidewall to help protect the wheel in the event of a flat.

Thanks for info guys Since there are a lot of differing opinions, I guess I will go with a wheel that specfies "run flats only", or change both wheels and tires to non run flats. I'm leaning towards the latter.

The problem comes when you want to put run-flat tires on, then you need a specific wheel unless you get the new continental ones

[/quote]Hi f6maniac ! ! !
That is one more cool looking set up your have! Can I ask you a question? Now you have an e60 also, right, and does your aftermarket wheels ride as good, if not better than you OEMs did?
Also, approx. how much did the rim's cost? (I really like them!)
I have heard NO negativesfrom the BMW forums about the tire rack, all positives!!! : )
I know it is hard located a good vendor, but looks like you did! (I got a rotten vendor when I purchased my replica wheels for my e60! Oh well live, and learn, I suppose LOL)
Thanks in Advance.

I think you meant to address your question to wolverine.

That's ok, I was just curious, but if that is your Bimmer, your wheels look great!
