I was wondering about those Run Flat tires and I came up with a puzzeling question. Okay it is not game show puzzeling but what if we decided we wanted to replace our wheels, do we have to pick a set which are Run Flat friendly or can all rims accept Run Flat tires? Now if Run Flat tires can't be put on any wheel shouldn't their be room in the trunk to put a compact spare and jack?

In the UK the spacesave wheel and jack costs ?70. I have bought this option and it fits neatly into the boot. Hope this helps

The Run Flat system that BMW uses is compatible with all wheels that fit the E60. There are no special wheels for the run flat tires.
BMW Group uses Bridgestone RFT, Dunlop DSST, Pirelli Eufori (MINI only), or Goodyear EMT run flat tires which are all virtually the same system with different names. The tires doesn?t need special wheels to fit.

The Michelin PAX system which could be found on for instance the Audi A8 and Renault Megane however need special wheels.

Has anyone priced the tires yet. I have looked at Tirerack for the Dunlop Sport 01' DSST on the 545i and cringed. Over $300 for the 275 back tires.
