Does anyone have the RPI silencer installed (on a non-M5)? I have a 530i with the RPI exhaust and I get a booming sound at low RPMs (2000-3000) that kind of gets annoying, especially while cruising at freeway speeds. Do the silencers help with this?

By the way, my exhaust is well broken in...

seems pretty annoying, wonder how much noise does it reduce with the silencer?

Judging by the sound clips i've come across, the RPI is def the best sounding tonally with its deep tone, but it seems the Remus exhausts sound stock-ish and pick up their raspier sound at higher revs, seemingly quieter at the bottom range of that throttle. Perhaps the Remus is quieter in-cabin for low rpm, normal everyday driving. I dont have the stepronic on ever, other than the occasional traffic light sprint, so unfortunately the tranny is always in that 2-3k range.

Can anyone who's tried various exhausts comment on this?

I have the same make/year and dont mind the low end noise that much but it does appear like your laying on the gas when coming off the line, some people think we are trying to race when im in 1st/2nd gears... Kind of anoying to me too but over all very happy with it.

Interested in some answers here too...

Dinan does the same thing between 2,000 & 2,500, I don't mind it when I'm driving by myself but with my wife in the car it is very annoying, as we often have to talk over the sound.

I can verify supersprint and remus did not do this as that is what I had in my 530 before this.

I also have the dreaded drone which I have found if I go above 75mph on the freeway I keep the drone to a minimum-at 80 its almost non existent.

Another thing I do to get rid of it all together is put the car in 5th gear-that will bump the rpms to 2900 or so at 65mph-75 if you need to go under 75.

easy fix but I agree the drone is annoying. If I had more skill I would take out the seats and carpet and lay down a craplaod of insulation but I dont have da skilzz

I'm wondering if the RPI silencers eliminate the 2000rpm-3000 drone or do they only reduce the high end noise (which I actually like).

The droning that you are experiencing on the I6 and V8 is common because of the straight-through designs of these aftermarket exhaust. If you get a turbo muffler where the sound has to "snake" through the muffler, the droning is greatly reduced while airflow is still better than stock. If space is limiting (going quad) then you should look into Jones Exhaust. They make tube mufflers that are turbo design. I have two of them in addition to 2 additional resonators (installed at near the stock resonators). Lugging a hot exhaust pipe (after spirited drving) at 1800 rpm on a v8 can be loud, but you can still carry on a normal conversation. At 75 mph 6th gear, you hear a hint of the exhaust. At 3000 rpm to redline, the exhaust sound is louder than stock but not crazy loud.

If anybody is in Houston, you can ride in my car and hear what I'm talking about. PM

All the silencer does is to restrict your airflow which results in lower droning. It will hurt in in higher rpms (high speeds).

I just installed the RPI on a 06-530i myself. Was extremely excited to start the car but noticed the booming sound at low RPMs when i took it for a spin.First I was dishearted and later it kept getting more and more annoying.

I would like to know if someone here would install the silencers and what their thoughts are after they drove on the silencers.
Thanks in advance!
