Reverse light wire
#1
Hi all
I have installed a videointerface and a wireless backup camera that works surprising well. its a china product but there is a can interface and it works and looks good. There are several video inputs and among those a camera input. For the camera/screen to switch automatically on when in reverse i need to connect the backuplight wire to the interface, and here is where the problem is. I choose a wireless system so that i did not have to run all the wires from the trunk to the interface, but i still need the +12V from the backuplight. Is there a way to find that wire in the fusebox(dashboard somewhere?
Any help would be appreciated.
Please excuse my norwegianenglish
Regards

I think there is a 12v plug in the trunk by the right tailight.. can you splice it and plug it into that?

can u wire the signal from the reverse light in the automatic?
the shift knob i mean
or checkl ur fuse box. there may be a fuse for the reverse light and u can tap it there. Or u can also wire an on/off switch so u can use it as a rearview mirror too?

I could try the automatic gearbox. But maybe it will be just as much work as running the wire from the back? what do you think?

I know what box ur talking about. I am saying wire an external on/off switch so that u can turn on/off ur rearview camera whenever u want. Just wire it to a constant 12V.
I really gotta take a shower and sleep now. It's 6AM!!

The only thing wireless about that camera is the video signal! I do not recommend wireless cameras since the video quality sucks. Besides by the time you get power, ground, and reverse signal in the trunk and get power and ground for the interface up front how much time did it really save you by not having to run a video cable from the trunk to the front?
OK, to answer your question you can get reverse signal at the rear tail lights. It is 12v switched, and the color is usually white with a yellow stripe, but you should verify with a DMM. I also recommend a diode and small relay to isolate the circuit you are adding from the tail light circuit.
