any mirror that has more than one plug is from pre Sep 2005.
If you get post sep 2005 mirrors at a good price buy them. Then swap all the internals from your mirror into the ones you bought. Cut the folding motor and puddle light wires out and extend them into the plug that you will have transplanted from your mirror. I have done this so I know its possible.

bruce my car has Prod. date 2005-09-22
would that make it post sept 05 you think? is post sept from 01 sept on or from 01 october?
meaning there is no KGM module in it?
and my mirrors would have more than 1 plug? the mirrors are just electric + heated. no auto fold, auto dim.

I think any Sep build is Post Sep 05. The factories open after the summer and start producing the new builds.

Hi Bruce, curious... I am doing exactly what you have detailed here... transpalting pre 2005 mirror motor into a post 2005 m5 powerfold mirror (the original had no power fold) where do you extend the fold motor and puddle light wires to? all the way back to the door module or into the plug that goes into the motor? or do I need a whole new harness as the origional did not have powerfold?
I also realise I could extend the puddle light down to the door access light but its the powefold feature I am mostly curious about..
any input much appreciated..
oh, and I am going to code it up once done so dont need to worry about add-on units etc...

If you have a pre-sep 2005 car then you need to extend the powerfold and puddle lights into the plugs of the mirror itself. They then plug into the door modules. Don't bother connecting the puddles to the door lights because if you can code your car then you don't need to hack anything.

Ok I will clairfy this once and once more only.
From start of production upto sept/2005 door modules were fitted, the mirros are plug and play plus coding.
From sept/2005 the door moduels were removed in favour of the KGM module and the mirrors are not plug and play, will also need coding.
Please guys search and read, the info is all on this forum.
