Just to make sure not get things mixed up ... all US pre-LCI M5 mirrors has folding motor in it but US market has no "auto" ability coded so no remote keyfob ability (similar case as the windows/roof can be roll down/open via remote but US market have no roll up/close ability) ...
Basically they will do motorized fold/un-fold but w/o coding will not auto-fold via remote (but will auto-unfold when the vehicle move the same as auto doorlock)

No ... enabling fold/unfold via remote is via coding.
Auto un-fold when the car moves is related to car safety feature & the cabin switch so no coding function for it.
When the mirror is fold via remote during lock it will un-fold during unlock (can not keep it in fold) so if you use cabin button to fold the mirror will stay in folding position until you either press the cabin button again or the car moves ... folding via cabin button & keyfob remote they are basically exclusive to each other

Yes ... just like the M5 has been and also what the LCI do when equiped nowadays (and what Euro cars when equiped been since the get go) ... at least in US market.
The remote keyfob is an added feature ... i.e. you can visually confirm that you lock the car (in case you forget) from further away by looking at the mirror if it's fold in you likely lock the car ('cuz the only way it'll fold via keyfob remote is by holding the lock).
Not to make matter more confusing ... if you install regular LCI (or pre-LCI Euro spec) mirror that has folding motor & the switch it'll do just that too ... the problem is US market pre-LCI car never has mirror w/ folding motor in it that's why all of this kinda new.

Euro spec pre-LCI standard mirror = 'cuz it has folding motor (when equiped).
or simply US spec LCI standard mirror = 'cuz it has folding motor (when equiped).
If you want M5 mirror look simply get US version = 'cuz it has folding motor since the get go.
Pick one you like from the 3 above ... note on #1 & #2 above standard square-ish mirror ...
Euro spec M5 mirror the glass is more expensive due to EC & convex (wide angle)

ok, I'm confused. My car is European as I don't have it in the states, I bought american M5 mirrors and want to install it and use autofold feature but my car doesn't ahve autofold. will it work? what should I do?
Btw, the dealer is going to exchange the mirror for the right one as long as I pay for shipping which I'll happily assume lol. I want those mirrors so bad
