I know the DIY isn't the best, but if you use it alongside WDS you'll see what to do. Just compare the connections on your old setup (4 wires) and your new (3 wires) and you'll see what to do at the KGM. I didn't get WDS to work right now, so I can't see it myself.

Ok cool.

Pictured here (stolen) is my old mirror wiring (white, red, brown, green). Assuming drivers side, I opened the connector on the new mirror and rewired the 3 wires to be the same as this (bar the white obviously). Is that correct?

It doesn't matter as you have to rewire at the other end aswell.

It would've been nice if you actully did read what I've been writing, it seems like you're asking the same questions over and over.

Can i make a suggestion to both of you. As someone who reads allot and offers advice on my experiences and not fluff, allot of people are going to want to do this if a concise DIY is put together.

Telling someone to follow a poorly written DIY and look at the WDS is not helpful. If you have knowledge why not share it. That is what this forum is for. No matter how many times someone asks the same question i always offer the fullest explanation i can. This isnt a dig at anyone, just a point.

As far as the DIY and to the OP. If and when you figure this out, do the community a favor and put together a good DIY that is to the point with lots of pictures and explanations verbatim. Again that is what this forums is about and all will benefit.

So that's my question really. I was unaware I had to rewire the drivers side mirror at the KGM too. I've looked at the WDS and only just worked out that the wire colours listed there, in some cases don't even match the white, green, brown, red that I have (had), but reckon I can work it out.

awt, I appreciate your help, I really do. I guess I'm just looking forward to getting this working. There is no mention in the DIY about repinning the KGM for the drivers side.

As Only Bimmers says, I will do a full DIY for this ever popular (and ever contradicting) DIY....

I don't know why they don't match, which is kinda strange, but it doesn't matter. As you can see, the brown one is negative (general rule), red one is positive (also general rule) and the white one is LIN bus. Just leave the brown ones where they are (pin 21 and 45), tap the white one from the drivers side mirror into the wire that goes to pin 23 and reconnect the white one on the passenger side mirror to pin 14.

I actually don't remember where I connected the two red ones, but it was around (or in) the KGM somewhere. I can't get the WDS to work properly right now either, but I'll try to figure it out.

@Only Bimmers

I'm sorry, but I couldn't get the WDS to work at this moment, so I couldn't do more. It's been a while since I did this, so I don't remember everything. Also, if people learn to use the proper tools (like WDS), it's much easier for them to understand how things are working, which may help them next time they want to retrofit something. If you just follow a DIY, you have no clue of what you just actually did.

Thanks awt. The DIY says that green is LIN bus but I guess it doesn't really matter as long as they match at each end

I will hopefully get out today for a look

Ok, here is where I got to today on the passenger side

Old mirror
Pin 1 -- Green goes to White/Blue in the door and onto pin 46 at the KGM
Pin 2 -- Brown goes to Brown/Yellow in the door and onto pin 45 at the KGM
Pin 3 -- Red goes to Green/Yellow in the door and onto pin 47 at the KGM
Pin 4 -- White goes to Blue/Yellow in the door and onto pin 25 at the KGM

I repined the new mirror colours as above (except white, as there is no white cable on the new mirror)
Pin 1 -- Green goes to white/blue in the door. I took out pin 46 and put it to pin 7 at fuse 32 (with some extra wire as not long enough)
Pin 2 -- Brown goes to brown/yellow in the door. I took out pin 45 and put it to pin 14 at the KGM
Pin 3 -- Red goes to green/yellow in the door. I took out pin 47 and moved it to pin 45

Does that sound right?

I need to pin up the drivers side and then hopefully done

I think so, but instead of moving a pin from 47 to 45, you could just use green/yellow as LIN bus.
