My factory SZL is working well.. I just need a new one because I'm retrofitting heated steering wheel: it actually works, but it turns off after some seconds reporting an error "Not enough power to heat" so I need the proper SZL (that I finnaly bought)
Thanks anzafin for the DIY!!
Edit: did last M5 E60 have heated steering wheel option? Just for curiosity...

It works!! Finally fully retrofitted the heated steering!
But it is.. Too hot! The seats have 3 levels of power, the steering just one. I would have done two.
By the way, not bad. And the winter is coming

My Ride: 2008 550i M-sport, retrofitted heated M-sport steering wheel with paddles, Sport-auto transmission
Nice! That was one of the extras I added when retrofitting the sport-auto paddles to my '08. In 2009 and later years the m-tech steering wheel was heated, so I installed the '09 heated wheel with paddles and did the changes to the SZL and replaced the adjuster switch.
On a side note, the heated wheel (at least the mtech one) is hotter than the one in my old E39 and in my X3 - not burning/unpleasant hot, but hot enough that I usually end up turning it off before the end of my drive to work (even last winter at -30c) as my hands would start to sweat
