My car: 530dA (production 09-2003, registration 09-2004)

It has the standard seats in dakota beige leather. I find them terrible! They are much to wide, offering no side support. Every (fast) corner makes you 'slide' /move in your seat. This is highly uncomfortable and anoying.

My previous car was a (1997) 525d, also with (standard) leather seats. I drove it 300000 km (187500 miles), and every km/mile made my addiction (for BMW) increase. The seats were perfect. Now, after 60000km in my 530, I am almost completely curred from my positive addiction. Two years ago I never wanted anything else than a BMW... now, I would just as easily consider an Audi or Mercedes.

I cannot understand that a car which costs (in my country) ?77000,- ($ 70,000.-) has such bad seats!
Does anyone know if the seats can be replaced with comfort seats, and how much these would cost? How about installing them?

Sorry to say but you just consider changing your seats after 60,000 KM, which means you did enjoy the car for 60,000 KM. About your question, I know for sure that they can be replaced but pricing and installing vary place to place, but try searching the forum, many of the members have done it. I notice its your first post, so congrats on joining the forum. you'll be addicted to this forum as much as you're addicted to BMW... enjoy..

Although I have been visiting this site for quite some time to look at pictures, I wasn't a member untill yesterday. On your reply about having enjoyed the car for 60.000km I must say following; i am actualy not the owner of the car. But... I drive it quite regular. Our (my father's...) former BMW, a 525tds (made an error in my first post) in Executive trim was a marvelous car. I drove at least 100000km with it. Our current BMW, i drove for about 7500km. I only drive it when i need to go somewhere and never 'just for the fun of it'.

Yesterday the dealer performed a warranty check, and fixed several noises. Last night I drove it... no ratteling passenger-seat, no steering-collum noise anymore... this is already a big improvement... but i still hate the seat every mile/km!

The dealer told us that the electrical cable of the comfortseats is completely different from the standard seats and that installing comfortseats cannot be just a matter of 'taking seats out and putting the new seats in... "we would need days and days to take the car apart and then be highly creative to get it done" is what they said...

Take a look at what nicke60gre's car looked like during his comfort seat retrofit:

That level of tear down is not necessary. If you have sport seats with full power, thigh support and heat...you can do pretty much a quick swap. The harness is the same. (almost) and the main controlling component is the seat control module. I STILL have a couple of black comfort seats sitting in my garage. I put them in my 2005 545 and then traded it in. My new 550 has comfort seats already. I know this works...I have done it myself.

Yeah, I wanted to use your retrofit as an example but you never posted the pics you promised in this thread:

Since you haven't been around here much lately, I figured we'd never see those pics and nicke60gre's were the only ones available (keeping in mind that nick's pics were a result of some other upgrades he was doing simultaneously.)

Let's see your pics ledbettm...
