Hey all,

I want to replace the trims around my windows from chrome to black. I talked to my dealer and they quoted me $1200

$1000 for the labor and $200 for the black trims. I still think $200 is too much. Anyone got any suggestions of how I can do this without spending over $100? A freind of mine said I can paint them myself using somekind of black marker. Any ideas?

Thanks

i want to change mine to black as well. I think the best way is to go to a body shop and just get it painted.
but im not sure how much it will cost.

to charge 1000 for labor is insane, that stealership needs to burn, wow! I get so mad when stealerships try to rip people off , how long does it take to remove those things not that long at all.

anyhow,

good luck try circle bmw they quoted me 77 bucks for on side not shipped so im assumig about 180 for the parts then everything else should be easy, perhaps i can call the guy and see if we can set up a group buy and get additional savings.

How about putting some black electrical tape? I did that when I first got my car just to see if I like it. Ran around with it for months before I took them off. They look nicer taped than painted in my opinion. Tape gives it that rubber look. You just have to take your time taping, especially around the curves. Cost of tape??? How about $1.49!

The good thing is if you don't like it you can always take them off easily enough, in less than 5 minutes.

Just a suggestion

WHAT???? $1000 labor??? insane! i wouldn't trust that dealer ever again, that is a DIY job, im not really skilled and did the mod myself in about 2 hours.
I got the parts for about $250 which is pretty expensive, but here we dont have many options to buy from, and i wanted to save a little by painting them but it turns out that the paint is not cheap and the parts need some special adherent, painting them would've been about $200 dlls, plus you still have to take them off and by painting them you can ruin them and there is no guarantee they will always look ok. I figured i rather buy the black ones and try to sell the chrome parts.

So my suggestion is, Buy the parts and try to put them yourself, NOT hard at all.

If you decide to pay $1000 i can charge you $900, i will pay the ticket from Mexico to anywhere you are and do it for you J/k

tnx
